Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The 18th General Assembly of the
Organization for Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) took place in Tehran, Iran
between October 23 and 26.

Hosted by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the
General Assembly meeting adopted the Tehran Declaration and elected the members
of the Executive Board and the Technical Committee. Thus, IRNA was elected to
serve as the organization’s Chair for the next tenure, and the proposal of
choosing TASS Agency /Russia/ to host the 19th General Assembly in Moscow in
2025 was supported.

Delegates of MONTSAME News Agency led by Director General
G. Amartuvshin took part in the General Assembly and established Memorandums of
Understanding on cooperation with Kyodo News /Japan/ and BTA /Bulgaria/. Furthermore,
the representatives of TASS Agency and Kyodo News were invited to pay a visit
to Mongolia.

It was also agreed during the event to establish MoUs on
cooperation with TASS /Russia/, JIJI / Japan/, TNA /Thailand/, and PNA
/Philippines/ in the near future.

MONTSAME News Agency was re-elected as the organization’s
member of the Executive Board and the Technical Committee.

The OANA was founded in Bangkok on December 22, 1961, at
the initiative of UNESCO. The Organization was formed to secure a direct and
free exchange of news between the news agencies of a region inhabited by more
than one-half of the world’s population. At present, OANA brings together 45
news agencies from 35 countries.

Since its joining the OANA in 1981, MONTSAME national
news agency has been actively taking part in its activities. MONTSAME News
Agency was elected as an Executive Board member first time at the regular
General Assembly Meeting that took place in 2010 in Istanbul, Turkiye and it
successfully hosted an Executive Board meeting in Ulaanbaatar city in 2011.
Moreover, the agency was re-elected as an Executive Board member in 2013 at the
meeting that took place in Moscow, Russia, and as a member of the organization’s
technical committee in 2016.
